Image Stephane Galland & (the mystery of) Kem (2 LP)
"Kem, in ancient Epypt, means the color Black, like the limon of the Nile, the black earth, fertile. An extremely positive word for a color, often seen as negative, or “evil”. It is in that symbolic earth that “(the mystery of) KEM” grows new rhythmical aspects whose schemes, “dances” and improvisations take roots in the Yin and Yang complementarity of rhythmical pulses (even/uneven). For this journey, Stephane Galland is surrounded by daring and talented young musicians: Sylvain Debaisieux (sax), Bram De Looze , Federico Stocchi and invites one of the most prominent Carnatic Flute player in the world from South India, Ravi Kulur (Ravi Shakar, Anoushka Shankar,…). The album also features Ibrahim Maalouf as a very special guest. With “(the mystery of) KEM”, Stephane Galland visits the rhythmical roots where all the musical traditions that he has rubbed together and integrated into his own language converge and explores a specific space that allows the integration of all these concepts without a priori or stylistic limitation. Welcome to the black and mysterious earth of KEM."

Image Switch The Stream (2 LP)
"Switch The Stream is about the urge for constant change. About the brain’s addiction to the new. The Chris Maene Straight Strung Grand Piano has a very specific sound that (for a modern ear) projects in a peculiar way. The bringing back and combining of a few important historical piano-building techniques in a modern instrument is something that inspires me and motivates me to experiment with. Coming out of an intense period with pianofortes, I could continue into a further stage of composition and improvisation. On the cover of the album you see geese during their seasonal long distance migration from the polar region; they feel free to stretch their legs on a newly built highway. This is an image with focus on constant movement. Such as the musical direction in the moment is perceived, processed, developed, twisted, and altered. Constantly striving to capture the intangible. Bram De Looze"

Image Suspended (Live at Flagey) (LP)

Image You Know (LP)
With an original line-up of trombone, electric guitar, double bass and drums, NABOU is a breath of fresh air on the Belgian jazz scene. On the trombone, bandleader and composer Nabou Claerhout is looking for a sound all her own: by means of all sorts of effects, she creates a dreamy musical framework with a strong atmospheric and melancholic resonance. The group’s debut EP ‘Hubert’ – for which Claerhout was nominated for the Sabam For Culture ‘Jazz Composer 2019’ prize – was already a fine demonstration of its unique sound, which is now further refined and specified on its first full album You Know. Lush and intimate sounds alternate with strongly rhythmically based compositions, while groovy bass riffs from Trui Amerlinck, Mathias Vercammen’s elaborate drum patterns and the modern, virtuoso guitar playing of Roeland Celis play their part in this musical adventure full of highlights – all created in combination with Claerhout’s distinctive trombone playing ‘that sings, cries, pulsates, narrates and knows how to make many hearts weak through well-constructed contemporary pieces’.

Stina Agustsdottir is considered one of Iceland’s best jazz artists and
nowadays she’s just as established in Sweden. She is known for her energetic live performances, not only in Scandinavia, but also in her previous home of Montreal. She has been nominated for the Icelandic music prize a few times, both for her album, Jazz á íslensku (Jazz in Icelandic, 2017) and for The Whale (2021). Jazz á íslensku has already become a classic in Iceland and has been used in Icelandic language lessons and is played frequently on the radio. Stina has been living in Sweden since 2011 and plays with artists such as Maz Schultz, Håkan Brosträm, Erik Söderlind, Simon Berggren, Henrik Linder, Joel Lyssarides and Kjetil Mulelid.
Stina, herself, says about her album: In 2016 I got seriously ill and needed to put my life on hold. I managed to get back on my feet, with the help of family and friends, and the music on the record is about this journey from darkness towards light. The songs reflect the many sides of a human being, both the pretty and the ugly, and that it’s ok to be a mess and need help.
I’ve worked with guitarist and songwriter Mikael Máni Ásmundsson on two albums before and we continued the collaboration on this album. He helped me finish some of the songs and even wrote new music to some of the lyrics I had. I reached out to a couple of other songwriters for collaboration, Maïa Davies and Jan Alexander.
I got a grant from Hljóðritasóður Rannís in Iceland for the album and we recorded at the legendary Sigur Rós studio, Sundlaugin, with the best band ever!: Henrik Linder on bass (Dirty Loops), Mikael Máni on guitar, Magnús Jóhann Ragnarsson on keys, Magnús Trygvason Elíassen on drums and Albert Finnbogason helped produce and mixed the album. We also had a string quartet and harp on a couple of tunes.

Sometimes, all of a sudden, everything lines up and a clear path is shown to you. That is what happened the very first time I played with the band you hear on this album. Everything seemed to fall in to place and the feeling that a permanen group had formed was immediate. So after a couple of gigs and rehearsals we went into the studio and this record was born. Music and life sometimes make great leaps.

Gnossienne is a word I borrowed from the great Eric Satie, to whom I also want to dedicate the song. Nocturnal of course has its fair share of maestro Chopin. And The Beat I would like to dedicate to the late and great Chick Corea. Without you, I would never have gotten started in the first place. Your spirit will live on forever.

Image You should have told me (LP)
Her debut album “I’ll Be Seeing You”, 2016, was instantly praised by both critics and audiences, receiving rave reviews and quickly establishing herself as one of the most notable artists on the Swedish jazz scene. Millions of streams and hundreds of concerts later, the most recent years have led her to cooperations with some of Sweden’s finest orchestras, such as Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and Norrbotten Big Band, among others - but on her new album, she returns to the core: jazz quartet, an acoustic sound, but with a contemporary and personal view.

Since her debut, Ellen has received multiple awards such as Gyllene Skivan (best Swedish Jazz Album of the Year), Jazzkatten (Newcomer of the Year) by Swedish National Radio P2, as well as numerous grants and scholarships.

Eva Kruse: kontrabas, kompositioner
Tjadina Wake-Walker: obo
Uwe Steinmetz: alt- og sopransaxofoner
Christian Jormin: klaver

Denne ånd af at bryde ny jord karakteriserer hele albummet On the Mo.

Image Reunion (LP)
Anna Lundqvist & Jonas André – Reunion

After 20 years apart, Anna Lundqvist (voc) and Jonas André (piano) got together again to try and revive their musical partnership. To see if they could wield that old magic again that they realized they possessed back in the days when they first started playing together. Reunion is proof of that their musical connection is as strong as ever, and, over time, has both matured and rejuvenated.

On Reunion, the duo displays a mix of original compositions, especially written for the album, as well as personal interpretations of some hidden gems from the world of pop and jazz. The result is an album that seeps of Nordic melancholy and tells lyrical and bittersweet stories of love and lust, life and longing.

A Reunion worth waiting for.

I am incurable romantic.
I am and have always been nostalgic.
It is unusually easy for me to feel sentimental.
When I think back and reflect on life,
I feel more and more often melancholy.
What is my purpose? What is my contribution?
What will I leave? Will my artistic legacy endure and have a value that is regarded as timeless?
For many I am an entertaining and humorous person and very often described as dynamic, both with and without my trumpet, however the tone of my instrument is sometimes
associated with sadness.
I am extremely grateful.
I have a fantastic family and very many close friends.
A wonderful life.

Swedish jazz has since the 50’s had a unique sound. The fire of American, mixed with the melancholy of Swedish folk music, evolved into a genre of its own.

The great baritone saxophonist Lars Gullin composed music in this way with ingredients from jazz, Swedish folk music and the classical repertoire.

This record emphasizes these elements and gives new life, not only to his music, but also to Swedish jazz.

Image A Better Place (LP)
Stjernepianist og anerkendt komponist Joel Lyssarides' album A Better Place.

Joel Lyssarides, piano
Niklas Fernqvist, bas
Rasmus Svensson, trummor
Joel Lyssarides is a multi-awarded Swedish jazz-musician. Starting to take piano lessons at the age of 4, Joel
claims that one of his early inspirations to jazz was from hearing Charlie Parkers ”Blue Bird”.
Only 25 years old, Joel already has a 10 year career behind him, and has toured and collaborated with artists
such as Anne Sofie Von Otter, Dirty Loops, Benny Andersson, Nils Landgren and Silvana Imam.
Over the years Joel has received a number of prominent awards. At the age of 21 he won the Jan Wallander
award, which gave him a Steinway grand piano and access to a studio in central Stockholm. Joel has also been
awarded by the Swedish Association of composers as well as been nominated for ”Newcomer of the year” by the
swedish radio.
In november of 2017 Joel recorded his debut album with fellow musicians Niklas Fernqvist on Upright bass and
Rasmus Svensson Blixt on drums. The music is inspired by flamenco and americana but also reflects Joel ´ s
interest in romantic classical music, mainly drawing inspiration from the russian composer Scriabin and the
argentinian composer Astor Piazzolla. The album presents an intense and challenging music for the classic
pianotrio-format.

Image Mewe (LP)

http://www.ivanrod.dk/2016/10/20/touche-interview-ellen-andersson/

Ellen Andersson Quartet has now released their debut album on Prophone Records/Naxos: ”I’ll Be Seeing You” - an album which will not pass anyone by unnoticed. The album, recorded in Copenhagen, also features amazing guests, Peter Asplund (SE) and Oilly Wallace (DK).

Ellen Andersson Quartet is a group of a fairly common jazz format: vocals, guitar, double bass and drums, which mainly focuses on own arrangements of songs from The Great American Songbook. The music is characterized by its vast range of storytelling and emotion, where playfulness encounters great seriousness.

The group wants to find a middle ground where the tradition can meet the present, while never losing musical integrity and personality.

Ellen Andersson has one of the most unique voices in Swedish jazz right now, and except being the carrier of melody and lyrics, she is also an improviser who challenges the musical boundaries between instrumentalists and vocalists.
